Inżynierowie stosując FluidFlow3 mogą określać ciśnienie, przepływ, temperaturę i stan fazowy w każdym punkcie sieci. Dowolny typ i rozmiar rur może zostać dobrany. FluidFlow3 może modelować dowolny komponent w tym pompy (wyporowe i odśrodkowe), zawory (w tym trójdrożne), regulatory przepływu, akumulatory ciśnienia, reduktory ciśnienia, dyferencjalne regulatory ciśnienia, zawory sprawdzające i niepowrotne, wyloty (otwory), reduktory i elementy rozprężające, rury venturiego, dysze wlotowe, filtry, itp. W przypadku elementów nie ujętych powyżej można zdefiniować swoje własne.

Często stosowanym rozwiązaniem jest założenie stanu gazu doskonałego, aby analityczne równania energii, pędu i ciągłości mogły zostać zastosowane. Zamiast używać uproszczeń FluidFlow3 wykorzystuje procedurę obliczeń, która rozwiązuje równania wraz z równaniami stanów dla małych przyrostów ciśnienia.
